This was our first hike in the Alps during this season. It was supposed to be a nice warm-up, but we were so weak that it turned into an all-day-long, extensive trip.

There were a lot of flowers at the altitudes around 2000-2400 m.
This picture was taken at about 2200 m (7200 ft) above the sea level.
It was warm and pleasant: Some of us really preferred to lie in the
grass than to hike.

The views were excellent: behind wide and deep valleys,
there were mountains with glaciers in the distance.

Just at the trail, there were groups of various flowers
gathered next to some stones or rocks, just like this one.

I was especially intrigued by the tiny blue flowers portrayed
in this picture. Unfortunately, the computer reproduction
does not show their really strong blue color.

The surrounding mountains were steep and wild; the rocky pyramid
behind Joanna is Kendlspitze (3085 m), and the peak behind it
to the left is Kleiner Muntanitz (3192 m).

I liked this view so much that I took another photo of it.

A view of Nussingkogel (2989 m), Bretterwandspitze (2887 m),
and Kendlspitze (3085 m). In the background:
Wellachköpfe (3037 m) and the peak of Kleiner Muntanitz (3192 m).

The contrast between the trail we hiked and the mountains in the distance
was sometimes profound.

One more picture with the impressive pyramid of Kendlspitze (3085 m).
